Like many boating families, the Robison family’s boating story started a few generations ago. For Bev, her earliest boating memories are with her siblings on Shasta Lake in California. Years later, Bev and her husband Wade, are passing their shared passion for watersports, boating, and creating core family memories down to their four kids with the highlight of their summer — an annual pilgrimage to their favorite destination in the world: Lake Powell.

“[Boating] is a really popular sport here in Utah,” said Bev. “But not everyone has the opportunity or the resources to do it—or maybe it’s just not a priority—so I feel blessed and fortunate that I grew up with it and I think my kids also think it’s a special thing and they don’t take it for granted.”

When their kids were younger, Bev and Wade lived in four different countries throughout Europe over the span of 12 years. However, when they returned home each year, the one thing they looked forward to most was their time on the water. After moving back to the States, the Robison family settled down and bought their first boat: a Yamaha AR240. After taking up an interest in wakesports — specifically wakesurfing — their family was ready to upgrade to a purpose-built watersports boat and say goodbye to stick-on gadgets and ballast bags covering all their seating. After her husband and brother-in-law endured months of research, they landed on Axis due to its affordability coupled with its turnkey, world-class watersports performance.

The Robison Family built a custom A24 and enjoyed many summers of wakesurfing progression and countless unforgettable family memories along the way. Six years later, their family was ready to upgrade to a larger wakeboat — The T250. “The T250 is a great layout for four kids and their friends,” said Bev. “There’s room for everyone. And it’s sexy! It’s a great-looking boat. We love the customization we can do too.”

Deeper than their A24, the T250 was able to provide their family with more comfortable seating, spacious storage, and some newer bells and whistles they hadn’t ordered on their last boat, like hinged seating. Using their boat as much as they do with as large a family as they have, the Robisons loved the convenience of quick stowage. Like many Axis owners, their first Axis was the perfect starter boat that helped them create a wish list of things to order on their next model—like the top-of-the-line Malibu Monsoon LT4 engine dad loves on the new boat!

After all their worldliness and jet setting, Lake Powell is still the Robison’s favorite place on Earth to take their Axis. While they tried other reservoirs and lakes, the kids always asked when they would return to Lake Powell, eventually turning their Lake Powell trip into a family tradition. Despite their kids being grown — 18, 21, 23, and 26 years old — they always make it work.

They’ve tried every way you can think of to visit Lake Powell from hotels to trailer houses to short-term rentals, but they finally landed on the quintessential Powell experience: renting a houseboat. They get together with family to fill out the boat, then surf all day long and cut loose at night. Even their dog, Solo, gets involved! Complete with his own life jacket, Solo loves to jump in whenever he needs to cool off.

This year, the Robison Lake Powell Family trip was filled with TONS of unforgettable memories. One of Bev’s favorites was their cruise to the Donut Hole, a unique rock formation in the shape of a circle with crystal clear water in the center where the kids can jump in from all sides. Even Grandpa was dancing when they cranked up the tunes and cruised through the breathtaking switchbacks and landscapes that make up the legendary coves of Lake Powell.

Their daughter makes custom playlists for each individual person to play during their surf session. From Harry Styles to Eminem to the theme song from The Pirates of the Caribbean (which is a low-key surfing anthem if you haven’t tried it), she has the entire family’s unique musical personalities dialed in.

With a large crew of 17 people, their T250 handled it with ease. Early morning sessions with glassy waters and the entire Robison family getting a turn at surfing. And when she’s not surfing, Bev, a professional photographer, is snapping away to capture the candid moments their family will remember for a lifetime.

When it comes to vacation, people have plenty of options. Some families go to Disney Land, some go to New York City, and Bev made sure her family got the boating bug with their ideal watersports boat — just like she did as a kid. “We feel like we’ve succeeded as parents because all of our kids love surfing and boating,” said Bev.
